Megan’s tips for keeping beautiful salon-perfect color in between visits: - Be gentle with water temperature. Very hot water will fade color more quickly. - Use gentle, color-safe shampoo and conditioner. If you are going to invest in high quality color, use high quality products. - Apply a deep conditioner once per week. Pureology and Phyto both make excellent deep conditioners. - It's a good idea to deep condition your hair about 3-4 days before your color appointment. This will help to protect your hair and still allow maximum color hold. - Use gentle, professional products. You've paid for the best color, take good care of it. - Don't brush wet hair. Gently untangle it, beginning at the bottom. - When using heated styling appliances always apply a good thermal protectant. They make a huge difference in the condition of your hair. - Trim your hair regularly. The most expert color will appear flawed on unhealthy hair. - Never attempt a color correction at home. Color correction must be left to the experts. I trained intensely for two years before being promoted to a stylist position. Just because a shade looks one way on the box, does not mean it will look that way on your hair - Bring in pictures for your first visit/consultation. Words can mean different things to different people, let a visual help to explain what you want. - Give your hair a break from the flat iron. I know it looks great, but it make your hair dry, damaged, and porous, and porous hair does not hold color well. - Do an in salon protein treatment. This is an intense treatment which will remarkably strengthen hair, as well as stop breakage.
